<hi style=afpcap>Effective camouflage schemes were developed during World War Two to ensure that aircraft blended into the surroundings. Amongst these was a scheme called olive drab which was similar to the 'European One' low visibility pattern applied to US Air Force types in recent years. Depicted is a pair of C-46 Commandos, one painted in the olive drab scheme, while the other is in natural metal finish. The latter was adopted in 1944 to reduce aerodynamic drag,.</hi>
